This walk with architect and architecture historian Petr Klíma will take you around three department stores, which can be classified as the three most important efforts of the Czech architecture in the 1960s and the 1970s: ‘Kotva’, representing a spatially extraordinary space using state of the art construction methods, the former ‘Družba’ department store, an inconspicuous “house with windows” at the Wenceslas Square, and ‘Máj’, which is an excellent example of the Czech ‘machinism’ and the incoming neo-functionalism.
