OSTRAVA WITH MARTIN STRAKOŠ

The stroll begins in front of the railway station Ostrava–Vítkovice, built by architect Josef Danda  1963-1967, which is the best example of the Brussels style in the Ostrava region.  The tour presents the project of the station, its remarkable decor and last but not least the dim future of the building that resembles the fate of other buildings from the 60s including the noteworthy railway station in Havířov. Next station of the tour is the nearby Vítkovice Cemetery with its late Sezession walls and gates and its first half of the 20thcentury gravestones. Last station of the guided tour is the Jubilee Colony in Hrabůvka. Its individual construction stages provide a good example of the development of social housing between the 1920s and the 1940s.
